Another short Gazette this month and running a little bit
late, as I have had quite a few things going on, some in-
game, some real life.
By the time you get this, many of our online friends will
be meeting in New Jersey at Ubercon IV! If you're not there,
hang around online for the latest updates! I'm sure Cerdwyn
will be more than willing to log on and rub it in our faces!
My trip overseas went well, and I had the time of my life.
And, to top it off, when I got home, my family just added
another four-legged family member. Yep, the Kzinti just got a
puppy. Kind of ironic, isn't it?

This month's lineup includes:

New Hero and Lord Stats by Gouki
An Alternate Origin of the Berserkers - by Abrams

We're elated to add another Angel to our once-again growing
Angel ranks! Congratulations and welcome to Myna! This
gives us five Angels and one Archangel here to help you!
So be sure to stop by and say hi. And remember, Angels
live for hugs and hellos!

The Quest team has continued to bring new and exciting ideas
to AVATAR, including Scrabble, Boggle, Pinata, and the new
Mage Duels. Where do they keep coming up with these great
ideas?
Be sure to send Kariya and the Quest staff a little feedback.
Let them know what you like and don't like, and suggest any
ideas you may have! Visit http://www.outland.org/quest/ to
send in your feedback!
------------------
Many of our players are doing a great job voting at TMS
(www.topmudsites.com) on a regular basis. AVATAR has remained
in the top 20's for the last couple months, and we're
elated about that.
But did you know that you can also write a review of
AVATAR for all the TMS readers to see? Look in the top left
hand corner of the TMS homepage. These are the reviews that
players of other muds have written for their games. You too
can review AVATAR! Just search for AVATAR MUD in the
database box at the top of the homepage. Click on the
AVATAR MUD link, then click on the Submit a Review link.
Just remember to be fair and honest. You don't need to use
your real name, mud name or even real email address.
Reviews help increase exposure to the MUD, and help bring
new players to our community!
------------------
I know what you're thinking. "Kenji, where do you keep coming
up with stories, articles and recipes for the Gazette?"
Well, that's easy. You! The players of AVATAR are some of the
most creative people I've had the pleasure of working with.
So send in your short stories, game-themed articles, recipe
ideas and ASCII art for future Gazettes. Email your submissions
to gazinput@outland.org
Articles that are used in the Gazette may earn you Quest Points!
So, be sure to include your main alt's name in your email. (Or
the name you want QPs credited to.)
Email me if you have a large or multi-part story idea as well.

Last month, I announced the winner of the Berserker Origins
contest, and published the winning entry. However, I would
like to offer an alternate possibility of where the
Berserker class came from.
This entry was submitted by Abrams, and has another
explanation of the mysterious Berserkers. I hope you enjoy it
as much as I did.
Flee!
I watched helplessly as the demon smashed through Ardwyn, our
lead warrior. Stripping Lord Ardwyn of his flesh and smashing
his pulsating heart into the paved stones of the ruins.
Flee!
The Mages were next. Lady Morgana's eyes were still transfixed
in recovery from the last spell she cast. Lord Gimlox's
equipment flashed in a brilliant display of smoke and sparks
as fans of flame shot from the demon's mouth. Lady Morgana
froze in place transfixed by the ferocity of the beast. Hastily,
she prepared to surge her next spell. That's when I saw them.
Several of them were emerging from the stone walls, falling
from the ceilings. Like a giant wave, they raised themselves
up over Lady Morgana, crashing down upon her leaving nothing
more than a quivering spine and a fleshless carcass.
Flee!
I looked around to see the remaining Lords and Ladies running
for cover. I was left alone. As I turned back, to face my
adversary, my eyes locked with the eyes of the demon. A
grotesque display of teeth caught my attention. Rancid teeth
fresh with flesh stuck between them. I gagged as I watched
them curl into what I can only assume was a smirk.
Flee? It was too late. The demon's minions had me surrounded.
They were toying with me. Hissing, jumping close I would jab
with my sword and they would leap just out of reach.
It was over, but by Werreden's fist I wasn't going down
without a fight. Lord Ardwyn's armor was useless against the
demon. Slowly, I slipped out of my own armor recalling the
days I adventured in the town of Kobolds just North of Nom.
I knew I could move faster without my armor hindering me.
The demon uttered something guttural. I watched in horror as I
realized it was enchanting its minions. If I was going to
strike it had to be now.
"Werredan aid me, I beseech you!" I bellowed, bringing both
swords in an arcing pattern neatly severing the closest
minion's bull-like head from its body. I lithely dodged the
initial counterattack of the closest minion as it screamed
and assaulted me.
Time slowed somehow. I felt like I was moving through a nexus
but yet not coming out the other end. Then I heard the voice.
I had only heard it once before when I was a low mort. It was
Werredan. "It will cost you." The voice uttered, searing my
brain with its divinity.
I looked around, the demon had finished its enchantment. The
minions were closing in. "So be it, my God," I growled. The
demon and its minions roared. 'This is it!' I remember thinking.
I tasted the flavor of blood mingled with acid. I threw every
ounce of strength into the fray.
Black out.
The sound of my own heart beat was in my ears. A cool breeze
was blowing through my hair. Something said, 'ahsinaT', I felt
refreshed somehow. I opened my eyes and there he was. It was
Nom. Sitting up I saw Lord Ardwyn.
"What happened," I asked? One by one he laid out thirteen bull-
head minion skulls stacking them into a pyramid before me. On
top he placed the head of the demon. Lord Ardwyn replied, "You
went berserk."
I noticed all my Lord equipment was laying around me. Hastily
I stood up saying, "Let's group," but as I tried to put on
the equipment I discovered I was to inexperienced. "What has
happened to me?" I asked.
"You are a low mortal again." Lord Ardwyn answered.
Looking down I discovered he was right. Remembering my prayer
to Werredan I realized the cost of my victory over the demon.
"I will see you when you have achieved Lord status again,"
Lord Ardwyn offered as he turned to leave.
"Very well," I replied.
Standing up I scanned the area, sparrows, squirrels and
skunks. I looked at the head of the demon. I spit in its dead,
unseeing eye and vowed, 'I will see you again.'
Gathering up my wits I headed north from Nom. With a wicked
little grin on my face, I decided to pay Linus the atheist
cleric a little visit that he would not soon forget.

Here's one that I found online that sounds good. Pretty
simple and just one simple baking instruction. I'll be
trying it this weekend.
Blueberry Peach Crumble Recipe
4-6 peaches
1 box of blueberries Fresh or frozen
1 lemon
I teaspoon of cinnamon
1/3 to ½ cup of butter
1 cup brown sugar
½ cup flour
½ cup rolled oats (if you don’t have rolled oats
then just replace with another ½ cup flour)
Peal and cut your peaches into morsels. Add them to a bowl
with the blueberries. Add approximately the juice of half a
lemon, the cinnamon and ¼ cup of brown sugar. Mix well.
In another bowl combine flour and oats and sugar and add the
butter. With your hands combine it all so that it makes a
crumble topping.
Add your fruit to your pie plate (glass) and cover the fruit
with the flour/oat topping. Make sure that all the fruit is
well covered. Pop it in the oven at 350 for 40 minutes. Let
it cool for a good half hour and then dig in. It is so simple
but you will be going back to finish the dish. When I make
one- it never last more than 2 days.
Don’t FORGET- you can substitute the blueberries and peach
for any other combination. IN the fall apples are amazing in
a crumble. Plums and nectarines are good. Mixed berries.
Strawberry Rhubarb. Who knows maybe Broccoli Pear might be
an original one.
