MALYSE EVEL
April, 2006
It is with great sadness that we relay the RL news of the passing
of Malyse/Evel, one of Avatar's most spirited and beloved players
following a prolonged and devastating illness. Although her life
and responsibilities had prevented her presence here for quite some
time, she was an important part of the founding and management of
Avatar for many years. She had popped in several times recently,
and we last saw her irl at UberCon VII. Her stay there, and here,
was much too short.
The Immortal Malyse, aka the great Hero Evel, was a pivotal figure
in Avatar's early history, even before the events that brought
Avatar into being. She brought admirable expertise, raucous good-
humor, and rapier wit to groups, channels, and Immortal meetings,
and uncontrollable laughter to even the most contained souls.
Needless to say, she was fully capable of reducing the already
unstable to puddles of quivering jelly and did so frequently, and
with great glee.
One of the rare early players who was NOT able to play endlessly
from work without getting fired, she entertained (and restrained)
players in the dark of night (east coast time) and the prime of
the day in other hemispheres.
A skilled and adroit Hero, back in the days before Lords had even
entered the dim recesses of Snikt's mind, she grouped Evel with
newbie and experienced players alike, teaching tactics and skills
to ensure maximum gains with minimum losses. Her tenure as the
Immortal Malyse was long and her service to Avatar great. She was
fast friends with the earliest Immortal staff, vacationing with
them in Maine in the early days, and capable of handily beating
Snikt at his own game...without cheating!
She, who risked all to save her group-mates time after time, faced
her rl illness with courage and strength... but this time there
were no clerics, spells, incantations, or potions strong enough
to save her. We will miss her, but she will not be forgotten.
